Young Earth vs Old Earth Debate; There is No Middle Ground
September 30, 2006
In the time that I have publicly discussed with friend and foe the debate of Young Earth vs. Old Earth dogma I have become more and more convinced of one incontrovertible fact; the evidence doesn’t matter.
Taken all by itself, a rock is a rock is a rock. It tells no story in and of itself. Through rigorous investigation we can determine its composition. We can weight it, measure it, and drop it in water to determine its specific gravity. Electrocute it, smash it, grind it, smell it, magnify it, burn it, and boil it in acid. All that can be done to it (and more) yet it will reveal no secret. It will divulge no clue of its origin, age, or what it has seen over the course of the centuries. All of our tortures yield no revelations of life, the universe or anything.
We can magnify it to the subatomic particle level or we can map it across continental divides. The rock can be studied in situ or in the lab, with relation to strata above and below. All the information we gather will lead us to no conclusions whatsoever until we apply a worldview to that evidence.
And that is the hidden fact of the debate between YE and OE; it is a debate of WORLDVIEWS, not of the evidence. We can take any particular aspect of the debate, say Cyclothems, and view the evidence through the lens of YE and that of OE and find that the conclusions agree wonderfully within each system of thought. We need not discard observations to make cyclothems fit into a Young Earth model, nor do we need to add spurious suppositions to the data to make the cyclothem harmonize in an Old Earth framework.
Let’s looks a bit closer at our example, the cyclothem. The following is part of a discussion I had online recently and presented the idea that the debate is not of evidence for or against YE or OE but a debate for or against the worlodview. Read more
Bus Stop Finder Added to Directions Page
September 28, 2006
Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a wonderful new service offered at Google, Transit Finder. I have incorporated a Transit Finder for directions to our church. Now you can type in your address, or the address of the nearest intersection to your home, enter the date and the time that you want to arrive at the Bible Baptist Temple and find out which buses and at which times you need to catch them.
It is still an experiment by Google and we are one of the few cities that are on the test list. But their testing is our gain! I hope you enjoy this new feature and I hope that you can pass it along in your daily ministries to help make Bible Baptist Temple more accessible and convenient for everyone.
Just click on Directions to Bible Baptist Temple to the right in the Navigation section to see the new feature.
Titus 2:4 A Quick Study
September 26, 2006
Hello All,
On my personal blog (http://www.biggandyy.com) I detail some thoughts Sandra and I had on this passage. I wanted to share them with everyone here and see if we can get some input on the discussion. You can view the entire article here and you can comment on it on this page. Simply click on Leave A Comment right about this text. You will have to register first and then an admin (myself or the Pastor) must approve the message but those are just security measures to keep out the pornography and spam.

A Note from Andy and Sandra
September 22, 2006
I just want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who provided meals, sent well wishes, stopped by to pray, and supported myself and especially Sandra during this time of her injury. It has been a very difficult 3 weeks and only now are there some encouraging signs. She is sleeping better and the wounds from the surgeries are healing very well.
Your help during this time has been tremendous and I thank everyone who helped and who also sent prayers on behalf of Sandra and I up to the Lord. We have been blessed by your kindheartedness and attentiveness to our needs. I hope in the coming months and years we are able to repay your kindness with kindess of our own.
Love and affection, Andy and Sandra.
